Help save off-leash hours at our neighborhood parks & lobby for additional times & locations.
WHEN?
WEDNESDAY, September 9 at 6:00 pm
WHERE?
Encinitas City Council Meeting
505 Vulcan Ave., Encinitas, CA
Your participation is crucial
Here are some things you can do between now and 9/9:
1. Write letters, send emails, and call city council members as well as the director of parks & recreation. Our representatives need to know that their voting constituents DO want off-leash recreation.
2. Join the PADZ Yahoo Group to be part of the conversation and keep up on the lastest PADZ info:
http://pets.groups.yahoo.com/group/padz/
Our website http://www.padz.org/ also has a signup link.
3. Raise awareness! Spread the word at the parks and with your neighbors about the 9/9 City Council Meeting.
Print this page and share it.
Download these PDF flyers (full page for display, half page for handout).
4. Write letters to the editor of the North County Times regarding the 8/5/09 front page article "Limited Roaming." http://www.nctimes.com/news/local/encinitas/article_d2e3aa36-5bde-5b58-8e4c-81ba3b8c9ba1.html?mode=story by visiting: http://www.nctimes.com/app/forms/letters/index/phpby or by writing to them at: North County Times, 207 E. Pennsylvania Ave, Escondido, CA 92025; or by faxing 760-745-3769. (Please note: most of the comments on the article's link are anti-dog park!
5. Share a link to this page and encourage others to join the PADZ Yahoo Group and to attend the 9/9 City Council Meeting
6. Sign up to speak at the City Council Meeting. Even if you do not speak, you may be able to donate your time to another speaker (not guaranteed) or finish the script of a speaker whose time has elapsed.
The volume of people who show up is the most critical determinate of the outcome.

Below are some ideas for talking points to add into your letters or conversations:
· We are taxpaying, dog-owning voters and we deserve to share part of what we pay for, i.e., neighborhood parks.
· Off leash hours in neighborhood parks increase neighborhood security-more "eyes and ears on the ground."
· We experience a higher quality of life by getting to know our neighbors and being part of our larger community.
· Dog owners' numbers are growing. By coming together at our neighborhood parks we have the opportunity to learn from each other how to be better, more responsible dog-owners. Our dogs become more socialized, and thus safer to the wider community.
MOST IMPORTANT - show up at the Encinitas city council meeting on Sept. 9th at 6 pm at 505 South Vulcan Ave!
